ADDIS ABABA – The members of Ethiopian Diaspora have joined their hands to the information warfare against the Junta participating through the campaign themed: ‘Unity for Ethiopia’.
Organized by Ethio-American Civic Council and advocacy websites of Ethiopians across the globe, the campaign has begun January 6th, 2021 to combat misinformation and disinformation orchestrated by junta’s supporters and some irresponsible international media outlets, it was learnt.
“We’ve tried to achieve the campaign through mobilizing Ethiopians to actively engage in exposing fake information disseminating by the junta’s mouthpieces and providing factual information about the country’s situation to the international community to safeguard our national interest,” Campaign Coordination Committee Member Seyoum Assefa said.
He told local media that Ethiopians have been actively engaging in the campaign to misfire the intention of the junta in defacing country’s image and suspending aids from the international partners.
Therefore, the campaign has been undertaken to abort the ill-will of the junta and building the good image of the country through disseminating factual information, Seyoum said.
The junta has been misinforming the world via the digital media deploying its supporters and employed foreigners. The main goal of the campaign is to expose their fake information by telling only the truth. This will help to enable the international community to have positive outlook about Ethiopia, he noted.
“We want the international community to be open to see and listen to the truth from us,” he stated.
As to him, all Ethiopians across the globe are actively engaging in telling the truth though the website mainly formed to this campaign which can be easily accessed on twitter to disseminate the hashtag message online, Seyoum added.
The major target of the misinformation and disinformation of the junta is to lessening the capability of the government and the country through tarnishing nation’s image and convincing the world to suspend aids. The federal government has been counteracting through launching the Rising Ethiopia campaign which will be propagated for two months intended to build the good image of the country and attract FDI, it was learnt.
