BY LAKACHEW ATINAFU

ADDIS ABABA – Tigray Democratic Party Chief Aregawi Berhe said that the Junta-led leadership has deprived the Tigray people of their basic and natural rights for a couple of decades.

Speaking to the Ethiopian Press Agency, the Chief said that the Tigray people had been living under the junta’s oppression as the criminal group had no intention of serving the interests of the people.

As to him, the recent law enforcement operation by the Ethiopian government against the junta has opened the door for the people of Tigray to exercise their rights and resume development activities.

He also added that the government’s decision to rehabilitate the State would ensure peace and stability along with sustainable development.

“The government would continue to corroborate the benefits of the people in the State as they have several unmet needs. The people of Tigray did not benefit during the leadership of the Junta.

Acting as if it is their protector and sole representative, the junta exploited the people of Tigray. In fact, it did not have any vision to improve the livelihood of the people,” he added.

Aregawi also appreciated the plan of the Ethiopian government to rebuild the State’s infrastructures the Junta destroyed and to restore the normal life of the public, adding that his party would be supportive in this endeavor.

“The Tigray people should be cooperative and support the government’s effort to rebuild the devastated infrastructures and rehabilitate their cities,” he said.
