Addis Ababa: Becoming more Pan-African city

Addis Ababa will flourish even more! This is an old saying that is as old as the city itself. It signifies that Addis is a new flower that has flourished and hopefully continues to flourish even more. Established more than a century ago Addis Ababa started as a small village and has kept growing ever since.

Apart from its growth, in terms of size and population the city has grown up in its political, economic and social role in the country. As a result it is considered as an all rounded city which is seat of government or political capital, economic hub as well as center of artistic and cultural activities.

Through time it became the capital of not only Ethiopia but also seat of African Union and various international organizations. Since then Addis Ababa has become more and more welcoming and suitable for the people of Africa and their continental organization. African Union now possesses a state of the art multipurpose headquarter building that fits the dignity the continent deserves. All member states have also been granted land free of lease to build their Embassy.

Most of the member countries have already built their buildings while many others are also following suit. Addis Ababa city administration has also taken a historical action to name streets of the metropolis after the names of the member states. These actions undoubtedly make every African feel at home. The African flag carrier, Ethiopian Airlines has also been a pioneer pan Africanist which has been serving people of the continent ever since its establishment. By now it flies to more than 40 destinations in the continent bringing it more closer to each other.

The decision by the government of Ethiopia to allow visa on arrival for citizens of member states of African union has also contributed highly to boost the free movement of Africans with in their continent via Addis Ababa as a transit hub. The city has continued to be more Pan Africanist through its more welcoming environment of peace and stability as well as its ever-growing hospitality industry. The international standard starred hotels and cultural restaurants are always eager and ready to warmly welcome and serve visitors with utmost diligence.

Addis Ababa accommodates various places that represent unique historical events that reflect the typical values of African people. The century old palaces, museums, art galleries, martyrs statues and various institutions also occupy big place in the history of Africans. Altogether Addis Ababa has become a city where every African feels at home.
