ADDIS ABABA– Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) said it has collected 1.6 billion dollar from Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) within the first half of this Ethiopian fiscal year.
Tadesse Meshesha Higher Communication Officer at the commission told EPA that the commission has accomplished 71 percent of the plan. The downslide for the achievement is attributable to some instabilities in the country at the reported period.
At this second half of fiscal year, it has been working to privatize state-owned companies. So this movement will increase the flow of FDI and it helps to filling the gaps witnessed in the course of the past half fiscal year, he stated.
Adding he noted that, there were many candidate investors that showed willingness to invest in the country. About 163 project investment permissions had been given in the first half year.
And some of the candidates are introduced to the government-run and privately –owned development industry parks.
Taddesse further noted, the commission has been working collaborative with embassies, consulates and other stakeholders to invite more capable international and local investors.
