Ethiopian Olympic Committee set goals to collect one billion Birr for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics preparations and participation of the Ethiopian Olympics Team members.
Committee President, Dr. Asheber W/gorges said the committee has discussed what to accomplish on preparatory levels and expected performances should be on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic.
The committee’s core activities were also presented during the discussion. The National Preliminary Committee has been assigned to undertake activities that will enable the formation of fundraising and sponsoring members and the creation of competitiveness in keeping the previous background of Ethiopian athletes.
The fundraising efforts will be under taken by the government; regional city administrations, other telethons and fundraising programs, SM, sponsors. The Ethiopian Olympic Committee would take the lion’s share for the coordination.
“This multi stakeholder task is part of the program in branding the nation’s tourism sector. Shining on the Olympic event is showing what we are, in the world and in sport fields,” he noted. According to Dr. Asheber, The campaign also aims at bringing 12.5 million supporting members to join for this patriotic action.
It will also be recalled that he has met Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed last week with a national committee set up to coordinate the preparations for the Tokyo Olympics as a country level.
At the same time, the National Olympic Committee announced that its purpose is not only to send athletes to the Games, but also to help them return with victory, and build the nation’s brand in the globe as was done by the previous legendary Ethiopian athletes.
