ADDIS ABABA – International Coffee Event 2020 kicked off yesterday in Addis with a theme: ‘coffee from the land of origins’.
Speaking at the event, Agriculture Minister Oumer Hussen remarked that the Ethiopian government has been taking various measures to improve coffee production and trade system.
Ethiopia has a potential to generate more income from coffee export since its coffee produce can penetrate the international market, he said. Also, Director General of Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority Dr. Adugna Debela said that the authority has been working in concert with the international business community to rebrand the Ethiopian coffee.
Adding, he said Addis will have a coffee park that would lie on 30-hectare of land worth 50 million USD. The park is meant to promote the Ethiopian specialty coffee.
The park’s construction will become a reality in cooperation with the government of Korea, it was learnt. Senior government authorities, coffee exporters and buyers, sectorial experts as well as producers attended the opening event.
