Revolutionizing Connectivity: Ethio Telecom’s push for digital transformation

Ethio Telecom has recently unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at facilitating the digital transformation of society. Among these initiatives are digital applications designed to eliminate the need for paperwork. Experts asserted that these innovations offer numerous advantages by simplifying the everyday tasks of citizens.

Ethio Telecom’s Marketing Cloud Digital Solutions Expert, Hailu Teklay, indicated that the company is actively launching various projects to promote digital transformation. Notably, digital solutions have been developed for sectors such as health, infrastructure, mining, and education.

“The digital solutions introduced by Ethio Telecom provide an array of benefits to citizens across all sectors,” Hailu stated. For instance, the health sector has seen the introduction of a device known as  “Telemedicine,” which connects over 4,500 clinics. This technology enables patients to receive treatment guidance from specialists who may be located far from the clinics.

The digital application transmits detailed test results and essential information to specialist doctors, facilitating necessary medical assistance remotely.

Hailu also noted that the mining sector has benefited from a streamlined operating system enabled by digital solutions. This system connects to satellites to prevent network disruptions, thereby safeguarding miners and professionals from hazardous situations. It is equipped with alarms that alert users in the event of an accident, enhancing early intervention capabilities.

One of the innovative solutions introduced by Ethio Telecom is the Smart City technology, which allows vehicle owners and companies to easily monitor their assets. In the transportation sector, this technology utilizes GPS to track vehicle locations and fuel consumption, thereby facilitating efficient control and oversight.

Moreover, the Smart City initiative employs cameras to monitor vehicular movement throughout urban areas, guided by traffic management protocols. This system aids in regulating traffic flow, identifying driver-related offenses, and addressing congestion issues.

“A device designed to monitor electricity consumption and promote energy efficiency is among the digital options available,” Hailu explained. This technology empowers users to determine their energy needs and purchase it in advance without requiring physical presence. Additionally, it supports tracking daily activities and allows payments through the Tele Birr app.

According to Hailu, these digital solutions introduced by Ethio Telecom not only enhance technological effectiveness and digital transformation in Ethiopia but also significantly ease the lives of its citizens. He emphasized their crucial role in achieving the digital transformation goals set for 2025.

Ethio Telecom’s Strategy and Business Plan Manager, TayeWolde, underscored the pivotal role telecom companies play in a nation’s digital transformation success. He expressed that Ethio Telecom is committed to reaching users with various technologies and digital solutions that alleviate sectoral challenges.

“In order to maximize the effectiveness of digital solutions, robust telecom infrastructure development is essential,” Taye asserted. He highlighted that Ethio Telecom, established 130 years ago, is making substantial progress by advancing infrastructure and delivering life-enhancing technologies to the community.

Currently, the company serves approximately 80.5 million customers through diverse services. Taye is confident that users of digital solutions will continue to grow, and the implementation of these technologies will significantly contribute to achieving transformative goals in the coming years.
