ADDIS ABAABA – The Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council launched the National Quran Recitation Competition yesterday under the theme “Quran for Peace.”
Speaking at the launching ceremony, the President of the Council, Sheikh Haji Ibrahim Tufa, stated that the national competition is taking place two months after Ethiopia hosted the International Quran Recitation Competition.
He added that this competition further contributes to the promotion and expansion of religious values.
The Head of the President’s Office of the Council and Coordinator of the Competition, Ustaz Abubeker Ahmed, also noted that the event plays an important role in promoting both religious and national unity.
He emphasized that the Quran serves as a guide not only for personal affairs but also in addressing broader national crises, encouraging the youth to uphold and promote these religious values.
Ustaz Abubeker also commended the young participants in the competition, stating that the event is not merely about winning prizes but rather about strengthening the Islamic values emphasized in the Quran.
Finalists from 14 states and city administrations have been nominated for the national competition. The competition includes separate sessions for men and women, and the final contest will be held this coming Sunday, according to the Council.
