Initiative meets its target goal

• Still going for more

ADDIS ABABA- City Administration of Addis Ababa said its initiative for better education has met its target by collecting 7.2 million exercise books, which will be freely distributed for 600, 000 students in 488 public schools throughout the City.

Bereket Takele Press Manager at the Administration told The Ethiopian Herald that the initiative is still active and more supports are coming from private companies, governmental organizations and volunteer individuals.

He said the students will also be provided with uniforms that have similar designs and colors for four different grade levels considering international standards.

According to him, renovation tasks are also undertaken in all of the schools with different levels that would make the learning environment better for students.

“About 70,000 students have been under the school feeding program over the previous year. Meanwhile, the current initiative will raise the number by 300, 000 comprising students from 1st to 8th grades,” he said.

With the cooperation of different stakeholders, building new feeding halls in different schools is also part of the initiative towards which the city administration has thrown full effort.

Bereket also noted that even though the city administration is doing some of the tasks that have not been done before, it is only while discharging its responsibility it is charged with people will understand that the Administration will not leave any one behind.

He said investing on the future generation is setting a course for the nation’s better future and improved education is the starting point.
