Command post says Hawassa City back to normal

• NBE schedules Sidama referendum for November 2019

HAWASSA – Hawassa City command post was effective in restoring peace and stability as the city is now back to normal, says the city’s command post disclosed.

Hawassa City Command Post head Colonel Tekleberhan Gebremedhin told journalists yesterday that peace and stability has reigned as usual in Hawassa Town and the surrounding areas. He added that after defense forces have effectively reinstituted peace and stability in the city as people are now able to lead normal day to day activities.

The command post head stated that the people of the city and the state at large have played meaningful role in bringing peace and stability of the city and the surrounding. Popular unrest broke out in the city following the chaos that flared up in connection with Sidama People quest for forming Sidama regional state, which many claimed that the decision to conduct popular vote has delayed.

Meanwhile, National Electoral Board of Ethiopia has announced the date for a referendum where Sidama people vote to claim statehood. According to statement from the board, the referendum for Sidama people self-determination is scheduled for 13 November 2019.
