FM Gedu expresses Ethiopia’s readiness to welcome Japanese investors

ADDIS ABABA – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedu Andargachew, expressed Ethiopia’s readiness to enthusiastically welcome Japanese investors who opt to invest in the country.

The Foreign Minister held talks with Japanese investors on Tuesday on the sidelines of the TICAD Conference held in Yokohama. The meeting also included members of the Ethiopian high-level delegation attending the TICAD conference.

The delegation held discussions with the CEOs and senior officers of Japan’s renowned companies Marubeni and Isuzu on the issues of investment and trade. Noting the good relations between Ethiopia and Japan, Gedu expressed the readiness of the Ethiopian Government to provide necessary support for the companies to invest in the country.

Marubeni Corporation imports coffee from Ethiopia, and the company has been briefed on available investment opportunities, especially on value-added production of agricultural products. The CEO of the company also talked about its intention to invest in construction and renewable energy fields.

Similarly, in a discussion with the top executives of the Isuzu Company, the Ethiopian delegation has assured commitment to strengthen the ongoing initiative of Isuzu to start a joint venture with a local Ethiopian company to put up automobile assembly plant.
