Nat’l entrepreneurship strategy enhance youth, women’s economic role: MoTI

ADDIS ABABA– Ministry of Trade and Industry (MoTI) announced that Ethiopia’s first ever National Entrepreneurship Strategy would play an instrumental role in helping the youth and women contributing share in the country’s economic progress.

Speaking to The Ethiopian Herald, Senior Public Relation Officer with the Ministry Shiemels Sisay said that the strategy was enriched with international experiences and aimed at supporting innovators and enhance their role in the progress of the innovation sector.

According to the Officer, the Ministry sets up an action plan every year and the strategy will be implemented for the coming five years. MoTI State Minister Teka Gebreyes said on his part that education and training, technology and innovation, follow up and assessment, financial support and awareness creation are amongst priorities of the new strategy.

Noting that the strategy sets a plan to create three million jobs by the upcoming Ethiopian year, the State Minister indicated that the new approach has given utmost priority to change the previous experience of creating temporary jobs by providing the youth with permanent occupation.

Teka called on the active participation of all actors in the sector for effective implementation of the strategy. It was learnt that the National Entrepreneurship Strategy was formulated by MoTI in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and its consultancy agency.
