Japan, Ethiopia sign USD 2.8 Mln. grant to support health sector

ADDIS ABABA – The government of Japan and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia signed a grant agreement amounting $USD2.8 million for health sector.

State Minister for Finance Admasu Nebebe and Japanese Ambassador to Ethiopia Daisuke Matsunaga signed the agreement on the premises of the Ministry of Finance.

The grant is provided through the economic and social development program with a view to contribute towards the country’s socioeconomic development by providing medical equipment to hospitals in Addis Ababa.

State Minister of Finance Admasu Nebebe said the government of Japan is actively supporting the development of Ethiopia and contributing to the improvement of peoples’ lives through various schemes, particularly in the field of health, agriculture, industry, infrastructure, education and the like.

The objective of this project is to support the concerted and coordinated effort exerted to improve the quality of primary health care delivery and hospital treatment service and to distribute the equipment to university and teaching hospitals used for both clinical and teaching activities.

The contract signed today will further deepen the friendship between the people of Japan and Ethiopia, he said.

During the signing ceremony Ambassador of Japan Daisuke Matsunaga said the government of Japan is actively supporting the development of Ethiopia and contributing to the improvement of peoples live through various schemes.

He added that the health sector is one of Japan’s priorities in terms of support for Ethiopia and the government of Japan will continue to provide assistance for the development of Ethiopia, particularly in the health sector.

Japan will continue to support Ethiopia’s development endeavor through various Japanese assistance projects as well as through other modalities of assistance.
