Plant envisages entering market with locally designed, assembled vehicles

DIRE DAWA – Redawa Motors Industry PLC has locally designed and assembled light specialized trucks that individuals involved in the tasks described the move as a showcase of knowledge and technology transfer.

The tasks reportedly said participated a team of five led by the owner of the company Eng. Tadese Admasu. The designed and assembled light trucks are meant for waste collection, vegetable vending as well as freight transport.

Company’s Quality Control Officer Getu Debebe told The Ethiopian Herald that technology and knowledge emulated so far has encouraged the firm to design and assemble the specialized vehicles.

The company, located in Dire Dawa Industrial zone, is mainly engaged in the manufacturing of three-wheeler vehicles, TVS Deluxe.

Debora Shimeles, an Automotive Electric Service Graduate, who worked with the company for the last two years said the automated work stations of the company have created an opportunity for her to be introduced with the latest technology and occupational culture.

“We’re assembling the three-wheeler vehicles in about 3-4 minutes, in the process adopting a new occupational culture of working with accuracy and quality.”

Isias Akilulu, TVS Assembly Line Team Leader, also said the assembly plant have molded the youths working at the station to be punctual and efficient.

“I, myself, worked in other places but this one is quite different in that you set your target in the morning and you can see your progress every hour. For instance, our target for this day is to assemble 120 vehicles, and we reached 70 before noon.”

The 1.5 billion Birr assembly plant has created employment to over 500 citizens, and have the potential to assemble up to 300 vehicles a day.

Orders from various individuals in the city only reach 3,000, it was learned.

Dire Dawa is located in good proximity to Port Djibouti and is connected by rail and a 220-Km toll road. The city as well hosts daily international flights.

Last July 18, the Ministry of Finance revealed as the country’s foreign currency reserve reached 3.2 billion USD. “This will cover the country’s demand of foreign currency for three months import trade,” The Ethiopian Herald reported.
