Czech Republic diplomats, expats plant tree

• Plans to share experience, indigenous knowledge

ADDIS ABABA- Ambassador of the Czech Republic and expats planted trees in the embassy compound in Bole-sub city yesterday.

Ambassador Pavel Mikes told The Ethiopian Herald that the embassy is supporting the national green development program of Ethiopia and planted the local and foreign tree species in the under construction embassy compound. The planted tree species were podocarpse, Graveolia and other trees.

“We planted trees to reaffirm our support to the Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed initiated national tree plantation program to develop Ethiopia better.” “Czech Republic is active in reforestation; and in Ethiopia we have project of reforestation and soil erosion conservation especially in Southern Ethiopia Nations, Nationalities and Peoples State,” Amb. stated.

Czech Republic is helping Ethiopia in knowledge and experience sharing through sending experts, he furthered. Environment, Forest and Climate Change Commission Director General, Bitew Shibabaw on his part appreciated the republic’s cooperation on the national tree plantation program as it initiates other embassies to do the same.

“We are ready to assist the embassy work with us in the tree planting and other issues,” he reaffirmed. Using the already produced map the embassy can follow up and identify the place where the trees are planted technologically, Bitew guaranteed

The embassy planted 43 trees with the plan of planting more than one hundred trees in the rainy season besides taking part on Monday’s schedule at Gullale Botanical Garden in Gullale Subcity, Addis Ababa.
