Are you a tourist? If so, how many nights will you pass in Addis? No matter short or long your nights might be, you need to include a must-see place in your itineraries.
Menagesha Suba National Park offers you an unforgettable experience and makes your visits ‘killing many birds in a stone’.
Why do we say this?
The mountain trekking, if you like, to the cliff-meandering via no less than 9kms- tests your breathing and blood circulation systems. The clean air you breathe in replaces any residual volume of air kept in your lung and could quench your fitness demands.
At the top, you enjoy the 3,380m Mt. Wechacha. Giant juniper and Wanza (Cordia Africana) aged 400 years grace the top of the western slopes, additional reward of rich plantations for your visits.
Birds and mammals also roam free in the shade of the aged trees, and their branches. Black and White colobus (Monkeys), bushbucks, Yellow-fronted parrots, Abyssinian catbirds and black-winged lovebird and banded barbet and leopard make your stay at the park so worthy.
The park is a day-long trip just not less than 30 km from the capital, Addis Ababa, which pays you back in abundance with encampment and museum visit. You may drive via Sebeta, 30 km from Addis, and 17kms drive from the town to the headquarters of the Park to the well-signed walking trials.
Suba Park covers 2,500 hectares of land of natural forest and along with 1,300 hectares of exotic plantation forest at the altitude ranging from 2,300 meters to 3,000 meters on the southern and western slopes of mount Wechecha.
Please don’t forget to jot down a list of wonders you experience at the oldest park in Africa. It will surely enrich your memory book.
