ADDIS ABABA – Catering and Tourism Training Institute (CTTI) reported that efforts are underway to make sure the Institute is delivering skilled human capital to the ever growing hotel and tourism industry.
In an exclusive interview with The Ethiopian Herald CTTI Deputy Director General Gezahegne Abate noted that though CTTI is the pioneer training center in the country it has lagged behind for various reasons.
“Business as usual approach was one of the bottlenecks to the Institute. Efforts are underway to revise and address the gaps in the industry by working jointly with pertinent stakes.” As a means to tackle faced challenges, the Institute has sent its revised program and other related issues to House of People’s Representatives.
Hopefully, it will be approved very soon. Hospitality is not just one of the world’s biggest industries; but it is also one of the most dynamic, exciting and fast-growing sector. “With every new development in technology and visitors’ experiences, we have to fit with the growing demand of customers’.”
CTTI should be the benchmark for technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions and higher education throughout the country in shaping the customer experience to the next level. According to him, to make the CTTI hub of East Africa, efforts are underway to learn from Kenyan Utalii Catering and Tourism Training Institute in human development.
He further noted that the consorted efforts made to increase the number of tourist inflow is bearing fruits. And the country tourism sector is showing a steady increase in the last decades. Tourist inflow has also risen from 64,000 in 1990 to 680,000 in 2013 and is expected to reach 815,000 by 2024.
“CTTI holds tourism is a game changer in letting many actors to part take in the value chain from farm to retailors in souvenirs shops at destinations and car rentals and employing many we strive make sure supplying hotels and tourism with capable human skill ,” he opined.
