Authority bans 57 food items

ADDIS ABABA – The Ethiopian Food, Medicine and Health Care Administration and Control Authority announced that it has banned 57 foods items which have no label information.

In a press statement sent to The Ethiopian Herald yesterday, the authority announced the public should not consume the stated items which are assumed to be dangerous to health.

Noting that market survey was conducted on the various food items, the study found out that some 57 food items have no label information explaining the place, issue and expire date of the production, types of ingredients, name and address of producing company.

The products include candy, table salt, almond butter, honey, edible oil, children meal, Vimto and Acheto products.

The legal measures has been taken on these illegal producers the authority said, and it urged the public to observe and examine the label information of food items in order to determine the accuracy, quality of the product before purchasing and consuming. “If there is misleading information, the public should inform to the authority using free phone line “8482”..
