We have decided to invite the Argentine Republic, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to become full members of BRICS. The membership will be effective from 01 January 2024. BRICS will strengthen partnership that allows working together towards more equitable, inclusive and representative world.
Today, the BRICS leaders endorse Ethiopia entry into BRICS bloc. It is a historic moment. Ethiopia stands ready to cooperate all for an inclusive and prosperous global order. Ethiopia’s accession into the BRICS group would realize the South-South cooperation.
BRICS has been an important bloc where many are looking to join. Our current membership is a victory achieved through many struggles. We are very grateful to China, India, Russia, Brazil, and South Africa; they have helped us a lot.

It gives me great pleasure to meet with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed again. Under your leadership, Ethiopia’s development and construction has been progressing in an orderly manner.
China has always viewd the development of China- Ethiopia relations from a strategic and long-term perispective. China is willing to strengthen bilateral exchanges with Ethiopia, expand all-rounded cooperation, and make bilateral friendship more deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.

Ethiopia is one of the largest and most dynamic countries in Africa and that is why President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva gave his full support to the Ethiopian candidacy to join BRICS. The future accession of Ethiopia to the BRICS will further strengthen existing ties, as well as open new avenues for cooperation.
Brazil stands ready to work together with Ethiopia within the BRICS to strengthen the already solid friendship that exists between our countries in all fields of cooperation, such as political ties, trade, investment, aviation, and cooperation for development in various areas.
