ADDIS ABABA- The Ethiopian Charities and Societies Agency said that the amendment bill of the most contested 2009 Charities and Societies Proclamation will help independent organizations flourish. Similar to the Anti terror and Mass Media proclamations, the Proclamation has been under tough criticism for the past nine years.
The amendment bill should include local and historical facts, the development of the country and social values in to account during its development, said Agency Communications Director Mesfin Tadese adding and this should not be for the sake of amendment and political purpose.
The Director also told The Ethiopian Herald that the amendment draft is in progress by the Attorney General. He also added that the Agency has forwarded inputs to make the amended proclamation helpful in addressing the challenges of the society at the grassroots level.
The Charities and Societies Agency is established by the stated Proclamation with its own legal personality and as an institution of the Federal Government.
