Ethiopia is a country that boasts a rich cultural and historical background, which has caught the attention of many due to its adeptness in engaging diplomatic relations and collaborative efforts with other nations. Ethiopia has garnered a reputation for its ability to excel in diplomacy, positioning itself as an important global player in this arena.
The country has become a hub for international and continental organizations, which has had a significant impact on the country’s standing in the global community. Due to the high concentration of these organizations in Ethiopia, the country has gained an increased level of influence on the world stage.
People from varied countries and sectors come together regularly in Ethiopia under the umbrella of these organizations, creating a unique platform for Ethiopia to promote its interests, as well as represent the interests of the entire African continent.
The country’s unwavering commitment to diplomacy and promoting international cooperation has become a significant factor behind its growing prominence on the global stage. Ethiopia places a strong emphasis on the use of diplomacy and cooperation, which has ultimately led to significant achievements in collaboration with other nations and organizations both within its borders and around the world.

During a period when Ethiopia was experiencing conflict and pressure in its northern region, China demonstrated its solidarity with both the Ethiopian government and its citizens. Despite the challenging circumstances, China stood by the country and affirmed its unwavering dedication to restoring peace and stability to the region. China also pledged to offer any necessary assistance to help Ethiopia achieve its goals and overcome its challenges.
In order to enhance the relationship between the people of China and Ethiopia, there have been various measures taken by both nations. To start with, the Chinese government has made available numerous scholarships and training programs aimed at equipping Ethiopian students with skills and knowledge that will be beneficial to their country in the future.
These opportunities have been seized by a majority of Ethiopian students who have greatly benefited from them. Furthermore, very recently, a group of Ethiopian university students were given an opportunity to take part in the 7th Huawei International ICT Contest held in China. The students put up a good performance and ended up coming in third place, thereby representing their country in a positive light.
Chinese companies and investors have been actively participating in Ethiopia’s economic growth, creating job opportunities as well as investing in various sectors. Among the areas where they have helped the nation is the construction industry. Chinese companies have been notable in providing support and contracting multiple projects while ensuring high standards of quality and aesthetics.
Moreover, China has played a significant role in facilitating Africa’s progress towards prosperity, with the construction of the African Union Headquarter in Addis Ababa serving as a textbook example. Furthermore, China has extended cooperation and partnership opportunities to all African nations. Initiatives such as One Belt One Road and other economic agreements reflect China’s commitment to working with Africa to achieve mutual benefits and growth.
Recently, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Demeke Mekonnen paid a week-long visit to Beijing. According to both local and international media outlets, on the visit, Demeke has contacted with his Chinese counterpart and discussed on extending bilateral relation of the two nations. Demeke disclosed that Ethiopia and China have a long-standing and profound friendship, and the cooperation between the two countries has brought tangible benefits to their peoples.
Ethiopia appreciates China’s strong and unwavering support in relation to restoring peace in the country. Besides, Ethiopia is open to take part in the implementation of Chinese initiatives, he said.
China is a good friend of Africa, Demeke elucidated, Chinese modernization and development achievements are of great inspirational significance and will inspire and motivate African countries to accelerate their independent development
Demeke further highlighted that, the two nations have proven their togetherness in implementing development goals. Again, Ethiopia is keen to receive China’s support for areas that were torn by the war in the country and reconstruct those areas in the post-war period. Ethiopia also welcomes Chinese investments and enterprises to invest in Ethiopia.
Demeke noted, “We are willing to consolidate the traditional friendship between the two countries, continue to firmly support each other in safeguarding core interests, plan for future cooperation, and continue to inject new momentum into the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.”
Ethiopia is interested to upscale the domestic security situations and carry on protecting and takes cover to Chinese institutions and Chinese people in Ethiopia. Ethiopia appreciates that China always advocates and safeguards peace and is willing to strengthen the coordination of international and regional affairs between the two sides to jointly safeguard the basic norms of international relations, he added.
By the same token, the Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang on his part discussed on China’s strong stand to support the overall progress of Ethiopia. As to the Minister, China is ready more than ever to support Ethiopia in the peace process. China is willing to extend the partnership between the two nations.
Qin also mentioned that, the two nation’s half a century long diplomatic relation and noted that the two countries has supported each other and becoming a model of unity, cooperation and win-win development for developing countries. China is still keen to collaborate with Ethiopia and continue supporting each other on the core interests and concerns of the two nations.
In addition, Qin expressed his gratitude to the government of Ethiopia for its strong support and assistance in evacuating Chinese nationals from Sudan. Qin said that, China has always regarded Africa as a diplomatic priority, adding that China and Africa should continue to work together to strengthen solidarity and friendship and seek common development.
