Council appoints new administrator

ADDIS ABABA-The Afar Regional State Council appointed new chief and deputy administrators on Monday at its fourth regular meeting.

According to the local Addis Zemen News paper, Awol Arbahas been appointed as chief administrator where as Ousman Mohammed was appointed as his deputy. The council has also approved the appointments of 21 other cabinet members. Aisha Mohammed, Head of the ruling Afar National Democratic Party told council that the new cabinet should enhance good governance, rule of law and stability so as to win the satisfaction of the peoples in the region.

She expressed her belief that the appointed cabinet members have the potential to discharge their responsibilities through cooperatively working with the community. As part of the reform measures, Aisha noted, the council’s amendments to declaration of powers and authorities of the regional executive bodies will enable the region to use its human and financial resources efficiently and effectively.

After sworn in as the new administrator of the region, Awol on his part said that the regional government and the ruling party are ready to implement the ongoing reform measures launched at the national level.
