Renewable energy capable to deliver power solution: Association

ADDIS ABABA-The Global Off- Grid Lighting Association (GOGLA) said expanding electrification renewable energy is an efficient way to deliver power solutions for communities who live outsides of the grid network, Patrick K. Tonui, East Africa Regional Representative said.

GOGLA East Africa Regional Representative Patrick K. Tonui told The Ethiopian Herald recently that communities that live outside of the grid network are highly dependent on kerosene and charcoal to light their home, read books as well as prepare meals.

This has a bad effect on human health and global warming, he said adding that accessing and utilizing electric power properly helps to make life easy and avoid intimidating factors in the country.

Proper utilization of renewable energy access is the most critical tool for enhancing the overall socio-economic life of the peoples who have been experiencing life without electricity.

He added that proper utilization of this growing renewable energy access plays an irreplaceable role in the socio-economic development of communities across the country as well as at the regional level.

Ethiopia is rich in renewable energy resource like wind, geothermal and solar energies. Also, the government is now on the right truck and opens its doors for private investors to facilitate the national and regional electrification program. “This is a great opportunity for private investors.”

Ethiopia has prepared a framework to cover 35 percent of the national energy demand from renewable energy sources by 2025, it was learnt.
