“Enough with war, let us sustain peace!”

Ethiopian deserves sustainable peace. We have more than enough history of war, the vicious cycle of war should come to an end and must ensure sustainable peace and prosperity. We lost a lot during the past two years of war in our country. Though destructive, we take lessons and we all are committed to end war permanently.

The people of Ethiopia are eagerly waiting for the peace talks to nurture a complete peace in the country. We decided to solve the war peacefully and we did it with the support and help of our friends. I want to thank and appreciate the commitment and support of the actors who participated in this peace initiative. Especially, the African Union and other African friends contribution is something immense. The AU-led peace talk to solve Ethiopia’s internal problem brings peace and is a true symbol of African solutions for African problems.

Next week, a delegation which includes presidents of all regional states led by the Vice President of the Prosperity Party, Adam Farah will head to Mekele, Tigray regional capital, to foster the peace building efforts. To ensure sustainable pace throughout Ethiopia, a peace talk will also begin with Shene in Tanzania.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said during a recognition ceremony to the contributors of Pretoria Agreement

With peace, everything is possible. I witnessed this determination of Ethiopian leaders. So, I look forward to successful national dialogue as part of the agreement that will be owned by Ethiopians themselves.

The leadership under Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and his brothers from Tigray region for their common decision to silence guns and in favor of peace and national reconciliation is commendable. Ethiopia showed confidence in the African Union. It did so in a deep conviction to the principle of finding homegrown African solutions to African problems.

African Union Commission Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat said during the honoring ceremony in Addis Ababa

Peace is always a collaborative process to be achieved and sustained. The peace talk to solve the war in Northern Ethiopia was impossible to achieve without the consent and readiness of the Ethiopian actors.

Much of the success in the peace process is owed to the leadership of his Excellency Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for his commitment and the bold steps he took in the interest of peace. The implementation of the cessation of hostilities agreement is registering positive gains in the field, thanks to the will of the parties and broader population

Olusegun Obasanjo, Former Nigerian President and African Union (AU) High Representative for the Horn of Africa and chairman of the peace talk said during the event.

The people of Tigray would never allow and tolerate any attempt to reverse the current peace. I came here carrying a massage of love and peace from the people of Tigray. The people were eagerly waiting for peace to prevail. Peace prevails and it needs commitment of politicians to make it sustainable. There are progresses following the Pretoria Agreement on the ground. That does not mean, everything is already normalized, but the progress is hopeful.

We have to work hand-in-hand to sustain the ongoing peace building efforts with a view to expediting development as it is our only shared destiny. I appreciate the decisions and commitments of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy for his commitment in making proper decisions to strengthen the peace process. I hope peace would prevail throughout Ethiopia.

Getachew Reda, President of the Interim Administration of Tigray Regional State said during the event

The commitment of Ethiopia’s actors to solve the conflict through peace agreement is an exemplary action for other African countries that are in conflict. It is a real testimony of an African solution for African problems.

The peace agreement has shown African Union Leadership’s commitment and ability to solve African problems. For Ethiopia, the peace agreement would help to move forward.
