Ethiopia stands firm to restore peace in Sudan: Ministry

ADDIS ABABA – Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia said that the government of Ethiopia exerts utmost effort to sustain peace and stability in Sudan.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Nebiyat Getachew in his regular press briefing said yesterday that Sudan and Ethiopia have strong economic and political relations.

Following the political turmoil and instability Sudan and Sudanese have encountered, Ethiopia has been exert efforts to resolve the conflict in more peaceful manner, through dialogue.

Mentioning that Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed had visited Sudan with the objective to discuss with Sudanese’ political forces, he said that the Premier has enabled to convince the forces to resolve their differences peacefully in good faith.

Using its prior experiences in the areas of peace keeping and mediating conflicts parties, the country will also work hard to restore peace in Sudan, Nebiyat noted.

Meanwhile, the 68th Session of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Council of Ministers is started here in the capital, Addis Ababa today. The meeting is expected to discuss the current situations in Sudan and South Sudan, the Spokesperson further stated.
