ADDIS ABABA-The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has recognized the Adaba-Dodola Community Based Eco-Tourism as Best Tourism Village.
In connection with the recognition, Oromia Tourism Commission Marketing and Promotion Director Abdu Gelgalo told the Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA) that the recognition was given taking in to account the high potential of the area and the belief that it will develop into a full-fledged tourism destination in the near future.
As to him, the recognition will have great significance in adding various benefits to the development of tourism in Oromia state and benefit the community.
Moreover, the area is very rich in tourism resources where the availability of dense forests and mountains coupled with diverse species of animals that could attract numerous local and international tourists.
The area is preferable for hiking, horseback riding, camping, among others.
Therefore, the commission has been undertaking various measures to promote the destination and attract more tourists, he said
On his part, Adaba Town MayorTaju Hussein said that the selection of the area as best tourism destination will play significant roles towards benefiting the local community.
He further said that the tourism sector embraces numerous jobs to youths and women.
It was learnt that residents of three kebeles have earned over 2 million Birr from carbon trading following the active roles in the conservation of the dense Harena forest in the past two years.
