Marking African Children Day, Bureau Deputy Head, Meron Aragaw, said that the issue of child protection is not an agenda that should be left only to Bureau or any other sector. It is a national agenda that needs active involvement of every individual.

“Children need our support. Each and every one of us are duty bound to protect them. They are the future generations of this country. If we cannot provide them support and help, the nation would not have responsible generation in the future.”

On the event several child protection issues were tabled for discussion. Permanent and non-permanent adoption procedure was one of the issues discussed among participants.

According to the organizers, non-permanent adoption has a span of three months. This adoption might be terminated by conditions. If biological parents need their children and if the case is determined before the court the adoption might be terminated. If not, foster parents could adopt the children permanently.
