ADDIS ABABA—Ex-President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Girma Woldegiorgis has passed away at the age of 94.
Born in December 1924 in the capital Addis Ababa, he served his nation as President from 2001-2013 succeeding Negasso Gidada.
Ex-President Girma started his political career during Emperor Haile Selassie I regime elected as speaker of the lower house (Chamber of Deputies) of the Imperial Ethiopian Parliament for three consecutive years.
Besides, he served his country in political, diplomatic and military aspects noted for his immense contributions. He had attained respect and popularity from the Ethiopian People Revolutionary Democratic Front.
We would like to express our heartfelt sympathy and condolence to his family members in particular and Ethiopians in general.
