Must a breakthrough go through a straight jacket of set procedures?

.Tangible outcomes are observed in 4 sorghum species that thrive in all agro ecologies

. It must go through the acid test of laboratories

The Ethiopian Scientist Laureate Talegeta Leul, famed for thumps up sorghum harvest bumping up yields, lamented the postponement of the long awaited doling out of the newly developed sorghum seeds for an unknown period of time considering a disagreement which arose between his team and agriculture experts from the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).

The ground-breaking achievement of his that basked under the go-ahead of the Ministry Innovation and Technology, that grabbed the attention of the parliament and won award from the former Premier is believed to augment the available sorghum yields by fivefold. It will swiftly turnaround the lives of innumerable Ethiopian farmers, so disclosed Talegeta Leul in an inclusive interview with The Ethiopian Herald.

Pertaining to the postponement of the program the scientist, who is founder of Re nature Eternal Life Afro Processing S.C, said, “Ministers from the Ministry of Agriculture, agriculture experts, and minster of Innovation and Technology had paid homage to the agricultural research center facilitated for and which is found on the premises of the Addis Ababa Science and Technology University. Furthermore, presentation had been made on the subject of the newly developed sorghum.”

He kept on saying, “In actual fact, the significance of the newly developed sorghum yields is unquestionable. Colleagues and I have made a paradigm shift. But this year we cannot dole out the newly developed seeds as we are asked to pass through the long catalogue of the usual preconditions set by some agriculture experts. We have reached into an agreement to work in unison in this regard.”

“I have almost spent twenty five years in this research. To my dismay, as the agriculture experts possess a straightjacket of own requirements, they would like to see the observance of the procedures of the research. I have passed through thick and thin. A lot of sacrifices have been made. There was no stone I left unturned to reach where I am at the present time. Unquestionably, the new findings will play a major role in changing the lives of farmers. This is the first innovation in the history of the country. We must not forget inventors always face hurdles upon bringing forth something new.”

“If I start doing the research from the scratch their way it will take more than twenty five years again. That means I will kick the bucket before I see my labor bears fruits given that I am aged,” he wrapped up.

Abraham Tura, is a deputy researcher of Agriculture at Re nature Eternal Life Afro Processing S.C. He said, “The new sorghum we came up with gives yields abundantly in different generations. It is unheard of from what is commonly known in our country. The new findings will change the lives of farmers in a little while and the general public can abundantly produce sorghum anytime they want.”

Through the arbitration of minister of Innovation and Technology, willy-nilly, we have agreed to work hand-in-glove with agriculture experts to work based on their requirements and at the end of the day dole out sorghums farmers.

“The newly-developed sorghum seeds play a major role in reducing the producing cost of farmers seeing that the new innovation does not require using fertilizers, additional inputs, buying seeds and other related aspects. Above and beyond, the productivity of the newly developed sorghum seeds increases per each generation,” he concluded.

But the hardliner experts on the field tour put down their foot that all achievements must pass through the rigorous laboratory way before reaching out farmers with new ways. Some impartial visitors told this journalist that the government must interfere to check out things and international trends need also be taken into account.
