Nation strives to modernize justice system

ADDIS ABABA- The society will no further receive grievances due to lack of good governance, as the incumbent strives to modernize the justice system and make the sector play vital role in social, economic and political endeavors, the Federal Justice and Law Research Training Institute stated.

Institute Director Degife Bula told The Ethiopian Herald many activities are under way to modernize the activities of the justice system to ensure good governance, and reduce high grievances from the society across the country. Transparent and accountable justice system would be soon created widely across the country to address the society’s need, he added.

According to Degife,the grievances that rose from the society witnesses that, therewere previously gaps in terms of the proper implementation of the justice system. It is important to prepare a manual which helps to evaluate the performance of the justice sector, he highlighted.

Deputy Director of the Federal Justice and Law Research Institute Mitiku Mada for his part said that currently the justice system was a sector which receives a huge amount of grievances from the society when compared to the other sectors. Most of the fairness was remained on paper other than witnessing the practical implementation, Mitiku said.

In the new justice system, the court will run in similar ways across the country; no need of difference from place to place. Indeed, lack of inconsistence in addressing fair and transparent judicial system was a major problem in the country, Mitiku added.

These low performance indicators were helpful to scale up the standard of the courting system, achievebetter governance, and reduce public grievances. The Court system must be more accountable and loyal to the people, he stressed.
