ADDIS ABABA – The Japanese Grassroots Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) and three Ethiopian project partners have signed a grant contract of a total of 452,194 USD to support community development concerns.
In the course of the grant contract signing ceremony held here yesterday, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ethiopia, Daisuke Matsunaga said that the program mainly focuses on education, vocational training, water and sanitation economic growth, health and food security.
According to the Ambassador, the projects which worth of over 352,000 USD includes the expansion of Haro Shote Primary School in Wellega Zone, the construction of Gunchire Primary School in Guraghe Zone and the construction of shelter for vulnerable elderly at Megbare Senay Elderly and Disabilities Support Japan Association in Shashamene Town.
The Ambassador also said the contribution of Japanese projects will hopefully benefit more than 4 thousand communities at the grassroots level. He also noted the Japanese government will continue supporting Ethiopian activities in the future.
The agreements have been signed by Ambassador Matsanaga and Mayor of Shashemene Town Administration, Heads of Enmer & Ener and Horo Woredas Education Offices from Ethiopian side. The agreement will assure for the successful completion of the projects.
Shashemene Town Mayor Adem Kemal for his part said that the fund will assist key contribution to help vulnerable and elderly peoples in Shashemene town.
Ethiopian Sport Commission Commissioner and Enemor and Ener Woreda representative, Ristu Yirdaw said that the projects will have immense significance for the community and to facilitate Ethiopia’s efforts in education and health sectors.
The projects will provide modern facility to the community and quality education and improving physical environment and leaning culture of the schools, he noted.
Ambassador Matsunaga said that over 400 projects have been implemented in different regions of the country since GGP was introduced in 1989. The Embassy has also funded 100,000 USD to improve neurology and emergency departments of Black Lion Hospital with Addis Ababa University College of Health Science.
