Ending violence against women

Sexual violence against women continues to be pressing social challenge. It has a devastating impact on women’s lives. The Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) claimed that it was a particularly unkind human rights violation that must be eradicated.
The sensitiveness and stigma associated with sexual assault deter many victims from speaking about their experiences.

A culture of sexual discrimination against girls is common in patriarchal communities like Ethiopia, where girls are supposed to stay indoors and serve males. As a result, most perpetrators will not be held accountable. Children from single-parent families and stepfamilies have a higher risk of victimization compared to those living with two biological parents. The greatest risk is from family perpetrators, stepparents. Child rape and molestation continue to contribute to the major health problems of many girls in Ethiopia; as victims they are more likely to have a major depressive episode, posttraumatic stress disorder, agoraphobia, social phobia, and sexual disorders. Sexual abuse is a major problem with serious long-term negative consequences.

Raped women require specific health services: psychological support, prevention of unwanted pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections including human immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV), and management of injuries. However, public health services for these women are of varied quality in Ethiopia. The scarcity of resources leads to limited options for service provision.

The short-term and long-term sequelae of child sexual abuse (CSA) are complex; a clear understanding of the sequelae is helpful in planning treatment and directing allocation of scarce resources. Thus, the aim of this case report is to present one girl’s testimony, in her own words, of her experience of rape and suffering at the hands of her stepfather.
Ethiopian Ministry of woman held a discussion with police, lawyers, judge and others. They discussed the issue on how women victim, the current situation on this issue, what expect from the judiciary and what is the solution to the next.

According to the dissection, women victim includes physical, mental, sexual, financial, and early marriage. The reason that they focused on sex based victim International and regional and national laws and policies, as opposed to sexual violence against women and children, is a violation of human rights, the violence affecting women and children is getting a serious concern, sexual violence is a negative impact on the developmental forces of women and children, It is necessary to respond to sexual assaults in order to achieve sustainable development goals and achieve the goals of the Growth and Transformation Plan.

The 16-day Anti-Sexual Assault Movement began in 1991, and will run from Nov 16 to Dec 10, with its main objective: Increase the awareness of the public about sexual assault, all social groups, including men, are mobilizing their support to stop the violence. The In addition, the Ministry of Municipal has progressed to plan the following activities within the last 16 days Promotion and Support of Integrated Women’s and Children’s Services Centers (One Stop Service Centers), giving a recognition to institution who give support to for harassed Childs and woman, introduce and start the free call center and prepare a consultation forum with the judiciary.

Ethiopia has adopted the international and regional treaties and conventions that have made it a violation of human rights for women and children. EFDRY Constitution Article 35 (Rights of women), Article 36 (Rights of children) and Articles 16 and 18. The renewed Penal Code regulates sexual assault against women and children.
