IGAD countries ties add to regional integration efforts: Ambassador

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia hailed the positive relations between and among countries of Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) describing as the relations contributed to broader agenda of the regional integration.

At the conference of IGAD Committee of Ambassadors (COA) held for two days since May 20 in Nairobi, Kenya, Ethiopian Ambassador to Djibouti and Chair of the COA Abdulaziz Mohammed addressed the Committee on the key challenges encountered in the course of implementing the agenda of economic integration of IGAD countries.

 He also underlined the need for ensuring governance and democracy as lack of the dear commodities create basis for conflicts, as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported. The committee was also briefed by the Peace and Security Division (PSD) on various peace and security related matters as well as the implementation status of the IGAD Peace and Security Strategy of 2016-2020.

The Director of Peace and Security Division, Siraj Fegessa, highlighted the challenges that are facing the region mainly the internal conflicts instigated by various reasons, the common transnational security threats and the external influences that are affecting the region.

 Siraj also mentioned the positive changes that are happening in the region following the normalization of the relations between Ethiopia and Eritrea and the show of resolve in the region for more cooperation and collaboration.
