While granting the 2022 ‘Benevolent Person Award’ (Bego Sew Award), President Sahle-Work Zewde remarked that a benevolent person speaks through his deeds and actions. He/She not only fulfills duties but also will live for the service of others.
The Benevolent Person Award, which was founded by Deacon Daniel Kibret, recognizes people who are role models for others; and made greater contributions to the nation and its citizens annually.
This year’s Benevolent Person Award ceremony had taken place recently in Addis Ababa. The 10th ‘Benevolent Person Award’ went to the legendary Ethiopian Commander Athlete Derartu Tulu where she received the special award from President Sahle-Work Zewde.
Being benevolent is not entirely given to specific people, race, gender or sector. This year’s nominees have simply showcased this fact, the President highlighted.
Congratulating the awardees and nominees, she appreciated the effort of the event organizers since participation of women in the award has increased.
Commander Athlete Derartu Tulu has been recognized with the 2022 ‘Benevolent Person Award’ for her remarkable leadership role as President of the Ethiopian Athletics Federation in the just ending Ethiopian Year.
Her recognition follows the impressive results that the senior and junior athletics teams registered at the global stages.
It is to be recalled that the senior team finished second in the World Athletics Championships at Oregon 2022, while the junior team concluded the U-20 World Athletics Championship in CALI 2022, ranking third on the medal table.
Apart from the special award, winners of the 10th Benevolent Person Award under nine categories were announced. Of which, Art sector and Film Directing award went to Alemtsehay Bekele who is Film Maker, Actress, Producer, Script Writer and performs various dramas on stages.
The two nominees who have been under the same category with Alemtsehay, Henok Ayele and Abraham Gezahegne, received a recognition certificate.
The other woman who has been awarded at the 2022 10th Benevolent Person Award was Rebka Getachew (Ph.D). She was recognized under Diaspora Sector Prize. Meanwhile, Super Model Getaneh and Menbere Aklilu were given certificate of appreciation in the same category.
Engineer Wubshet Zeqyale, has won the Teachers’ sector award while one of the nominees’ Teacher Wolde Hana W/Yohannes, has received recognition certificate. Prof. Endrias Eshete was also among the candidates.
In Voluntary Service category, Kibera Kebede was awarded. Under this category, Mikiyas Lessese and Henok Fekadu were also given recognition certificate. Of the nominees of Heritage and Culture Sector, Sheik Mohammed Awol Hameza took the 10th Award of the category while Teacher Zena Markos and Abu Gebire received certificate of appreciation.
Founder of Ambassador Brand, Seid Mohammed have also won the Trade and Entrepreneur sector’s award. Nominees of this category who received recognition certificate were Tenker Teri and Fisseha Eshetu (PhD).
Given his devotion and ample successful works in the aviation sector, Girma Wake was given the ‘Benevolent Person Award’ under the category of effective execution of governmental tasks. While Emeritus Prof. Reda Teklehimanot was awarded the 10th Science Sector prize, the two nominees’ Miteke Mola (Ph.D) and Prof. Belay Woldeyes were given appreciation certificate.
Under Journalist category, Journalist Solomon Gebreselassie won the Award. Of the two nominated journalists: Girma Fisseha and Seifu Fantahun, Girma has received recognition certificate.
