ENDF in better position to prevent any attack

ADDIS ABABA – The Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) announced that it is in a better position to ward off Ethiopia from any attack and ready to safeguard the national interest and peace of the people while respecting laws.

ENDF has recently briefed Military Attaché residing in Addis Ababa on the current security situations in Ethiopia and members of international community on current issues in the light of the renewed TPLF’s belligerence respective measures being taken by the government.

The briefing came after the terrorist TPLF has opened renewed war against Ethiopia by avoiding peace options put in place by the federal government.

Briefing the representatives of the international community ENDF International Relations and Military Cooperation Director General, Major General Teshome Gemechu stated that: “We do not want to violate any international law. As military institution, we cannot take any stance which will contradict with the position of the government. However, safeguarding the wellbeing of our people and the national interest of the country will not be compromised because it is our mandate and obligation. This is our duty and  ENDF is in a better position to prevent Ethiopia from any attack and thwart any belligerence against the nation. The National Army is ready to safeguard the national interest and peace of the people while respecting the peace options set by the Federal Government, he reiterated.

TPLF has launched attacks in Wotwot Rama, Bisober and Zobl fronts and border areas of neighboring Afar state, Maj. General Teshome said, assuring them that the aggressing by the rebel forces can be confirmed through technological devices.

ENDF has institutional responsibility to defend sovereignty and interest of the nation from any security threat, called on the international community to take account of the efforts exerted by the government of Ethiopia to solve the situation with peaceful manner.

Representative of the Defense Attaché at Austria embassy, Johann Jamnig said such briefings was helpful for us to get a wide understanding about the ongoing security situation in the country.

“The briefing is a good opportunity for us for the international community to hear official assessment from the national defense force so that we do not have to rely on media reports. It is really grateful for getting this opportunity,” he stated.

Representative of Defense Attaché at Germany embassy, Thomas Reiberling on his part said: “It was a very interesting briefing which contributed for us to understand the situation in Ethiopia. I hope that peace and stability will come back very soon in this wonderful country with its wonderful people.”
