ADDIS ABABA – The Ethiopian Athletes who registered astonishing victory at the World Athletics U20 Championships 2022 in Colombia, Cali have received national award and recognition.
The athletics delegation has received a warm welcome at Bole International airport on Friday.
During national award and recognition ceremony, House of Federation (HoF) Speaker Agegnehu Teshager said that Ethiopia and athletics sport is two sides of a coin.
“Awarding and recognizing the youth athletes is making the future athletes to be successful. Ethiopia continues winning its challenges like the athletes,” he said.
Minister of Tourism and Culture Kejela Merdasa said that: “ We Ethiopians are proud of athletes who registered remarkable victories and our victorious athletes are our future representative of prior hero athletes.”
As to him, the victory is the result of efforts of the leadership, systems, teamwork and others.
On her part, Ethiopian Athletics Federation President Athlete Derartu Tulu said that this year Ethiopian athletes have registered astonishing victories in World Athletics Championships U20 2022 in Colombia, Cali. The team achieved historic results at the 2022 U20 World Athletics Championships.
She praised the shining athletes who have brought Gold, Silver and bronze medals at the 2022 U20 World Athletics Championships in Colombia, Cali.
Delegation Team Leader Athlete Meselech Melkamu said that Ethiopian Athletes victory at World Athletics Champions 2022 in Oregon, U.S has enabled them to get further medals in U20 in Colombia, Cali.
“The result is a new chapter or record for Ethiopia. This result encourages the morale of other youth athletes to compete and bring better results in the future. The warm welcoming further encourages athletes to be more competitive in any race in the world,” she said. Accordingly, Ethiopia becomes the leading gold medalist from Africa and ranked third in the world by winning 6 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze medals at the championships
