T-TPLF, Shene, foreign fighters captured fighting for Al-Shabaab

ADDIS ABABA— National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister, Ambassador Redwan Hussien disclosed that members of the terrorist TPLF and Shene groups as well as citizens of other countries have been caught fighting against Ethiopia alongside Al-Shabaab.

Accordingly, all the anti-peace elements that are lined up fighting for Al-Shabaab were killed in the action taken by the security forces against the terrorist al-Shabaab.

Talking about the current situation of national security, Amb. Redwan said that there are attempts and threats by the anti-peace elements that may risk the safety and security of citizens and potentially put the  sovereignty of the country at risk over the past times.

The law enforcement operation being undertaken against terrorist and armed groups has brought about positive outcomes for peace and stability of Ethiopia.

Mentioning the terrorist Al-Shabaab group attempt to infiltrate into Ethiopia through Eastern part which has been successfully thwarted by the joint efforts of the security forces, he said: “All the coordinated attempts are aimed at thwarting Ethiopia’s development process using its own resources, but prettily aborted.”

He confirmed that a number of anti-peace elements associating with Al-Shabaab, TPLF, Shene, foreigners and other anti-peace forces were arrested following the measures taken against the terrorist Al-Shabaab group.

Taking the presence of various forces working to disrupt peace and security of the citizens into account, the government will continue taking measures against any force attempting to undermine citizens’ peace and infringe sovereignty of the country.

Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) Information Main Department Head Lieutenant General Birhanu Bekele on his part said that the law enforcement operation was successful and the government will continue ensuring peace and stability of the citizens, and positive changes are being recorded in terms of ensuring the national security of the country.

The law enforcement operation was successful and many members and leaders of the terrorist group were dismissed in operations, and society’s role in supporting the security force is worth appreciating. Efforts are also being intensified to reach a level where the enemy will not find any more opportunity to expand in the region, it was learnt.
