ADDIS ABABA – Minister of Foreign Affairs Gedu Andargachew has expressed his satisfaction the ongoing constructive negotiations among Sudanese political stakeholder. As part of his continued engagement with diplomats and representatives of neighboring countries, Gedu Andargachew has conferred with Ambassador Nadia Mohammed Kheir, chargé d’affaires, the Embassy of the Republic of the Sudan yesterday.

On the occasion, expressing his satisfaction over the ongoing constructive negotiations among Sudanese political stakeholders, Minister Gedu reiterated Ethiopia’s commitment to support the process. Sudan’s military leaders have announced an agreement with the opposition alliance for a threeyear transition period to a civilian administration.

The Transitional Military Council (TMC) said the alliance would have two-thirds of the seats on a legislative council. However, the two sides are yet to agree on a sovereign council – the top tier of power, where both want a majority. Sudan has been ruled by the military council since last month’s toppling of President Omar al-Bashir.

Protests that led to his downfall have continued amid demands for full civilian government reported the BBC. Meanwhile, Gedu also met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya, Catherine Mwangi. The two sides underlined the importance of further strengthening the time-tested and traditional diplomatic ties between Ethiopia and Kenya.
