The 5th National Research Conference kicks off

ADDIS ABABA – the 5th National Research Conference on public sector transformation and development began yesterday at the Ethiopian Civil Service University Hall. On the occasion, President of the University, Professor Fekrie Dessalegn stated that the University has been engaged in conducting research and rendering a need-based community services as a full pledge mission since five years ago.

 As a coordinator of the event, the University has also been disseminating the outputs of these problem-solving researches from its research undertakings to all concerned bodies, he added. He indicated that the University conducted 160 researches and disseminated 65 selected research outputs within five years with the help of an enabling research policy, despite the fact the research wing is still at an infant stage of its growth.

Zewdie Zakie, Head of Research and Publication Coordination Office at the University, said that the University has established a University Industrial linkage Directorate aimed at disseminating the conducted researches to the concerned bodies, and as a result provide support to various sectors of the industry.

He stressed that various government sectors have been applying research outputs that were obtained from the University, adding that the one window service providing center is the result of the research of the university. Further, Zewudie noted that among the researches that are going to be presented some of them will be published on journals and books after passing through the evaluation criteria for being published.

Bezabih Gebreyes, Commissioner of Ethiopian Civil Service, for his part said that the Commission has been embarking on developing an organizational structure which paves the way to work collaboratively with national and international research organizations for the last few months.

The Commission established the Change Partnership Director General with the target of facilitating close working relation with other research organizations, he remarked. It was learnt that 15 studies that are approved, out of 127 researches sent to the university from different universities, will be presented at the conference whilst 21 research outputs that were conducted by the University will also be presented at the conference.
