Mayor pledges to make Addis livable

ADDIS ABABA- Deputy Mayor of Addis Ababa City Government Eng. Takele Uma expressed his commitment to work with the Diasporas to make the capital city more advanced and livable at the recent Diaspora Engagement Event in Washington D.C. At the occasion, the Deputy Mayor announced the city government’s decision to dedicate office to this purpose for members of the Ethiopian Diaspora community in North America.

In his remarks to the gathering, Ethiopian Ambassador to the US Fitsum Arega thanked the Diaspora community for their persistent support for the ongoing reform process in Ethiopia. The Ambassador also called upon the Diaspora to remain engaged and to contribute more to the efforts being made to bring about peace and prosperity in their country of origin.

The event was held on the premises of Ethiopian Embassy and brought together over 500 participants from the DMV Metropolitan areas, which include the US states of District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. The Embassy stated that representatives from religious denominations, the business community, professional associations and different interest groups were also present at the event.
