Int’l partners contribute to Beautifying Sheger

ADDIS ABABA- International partner governments and organizations have contributed finance to Beautifying Sheger, a project aimed at making Addis a livable city.

Yesterday, the Office of the Prime Minister announced list of international contributors to the project on its page as-African Development Bank (AfDB), 600, 000 USD; the Government of Italy, 5,000,000 Euro; UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), 1,000,000 USD and UN Development Program (UNDP) 1,000,000 USD. “We are grateful to the supporters,” PMO commended partners’ commitments.

 The project estimated to consume 29 billion Birr is to develop two rivers that could stretch 23.8kms and 27.5kms respectively from Mt. Entoto in the north section of the capital to Akaki south of the city. The development is said to award residents with greenery, jobs and healthy life in addition to contributing to urban tourism.

‘Dine for Sheger’- is meant to raise funds for the project buying a ticket-five million Birr per plate-that enables participants attend a dinner banquet at the PMO.

The Office of the Prime Minister indicates that business owners, company CEOs, international organizations, heads and members of the diplomatic community and countries have been buying the dinner tickets for ‘Dine for Sheger’.

Regarding the investment dividend, the Office indicated: “a plaque with your name on it will be placed at a location along the 56km project route once completed and a private photo-op [photo opportunity] with Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed which will be compiled into album of individuals who changed the face of Addis Ababa.”
