ADDIS ABABA – Enat Party and Tigray Democratic Party (TDP) have given thumbs up to the decision of Prosperity Party to conduct peace talks with terrorist TPLF to end the conflicts in northern Ethiopia.

In exclusive interview with The Ethiopian Herald, Acting President of Enat Party, Seife-Selassie Ayalew said that the ruling party’s [Prosperity Party’s] decision to carry out peace talks with TPLF was inevitable as such talks are always expected to end war.

“The people are tired of war. Significant human lives were claimed and the country incurred unbearable economic cost. As a political party, we have called for peaceful measures to end the brutal war,” he said.

The people in Amhara, Afar and Tigray states deserve everlasting peace and long-lasting solutions to the problems; for the sake of public interest, both the government and TPLF should refrain from entering into fresh war, he noted.

Meanwhile, Seife-Selasie has underlined that legal frameworks should not be rejected while conducting peace talks with TPLF.

TDP Public Relations Mulubirhan Haile also told Ethiopian Press Agency that his party encourages peace-talks to reconcile the conflict.

“The government of Ethiopia has decided to end the disputes in the Northern Ethiopia so as to promote peaceful resolution. At this time, TPLF must take the same decision,” Mulubirhan said.

TPLF has ignored peaceful mechanisms many times since the war broke out. Now, it is high time to TPLF to negotiate over political disputes. If not, the decision taken by the government will not be significant. The misery of the people must end sooner than later , he added.

“Unfortunately, TPLF has no a history of compromising via having peace talks. It has been going through conflicts and violent mechanisms until today. Hereafter, it should be calculative of the people’s interest; which is determining the future fate through peace talks,” he noted.

Seife-Selassie on his part stated that the would-be peace talks should not be taken as a negotiation between Ethiopia and the people of Tigray.
