MP expresses doubt on T-TPLF commitment for peace

ADDIS ABABA – The Ethiopian government’s initiative to resolve differences through a democratic manner would give the country a rosy future, a veteran politician and a Member of Parliament (MP) said, expressing concern whether the Terrorist TPLF makes a similar gesture.

Speaking to the Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA), the House of Peoples’ Representatives (HPR) Foreign Relations and Peace Standing Committee Chairperson Dima Negewo (PhD) noted that the willingness of the Ethiopian government towards peaceful reconciliation is essential and quite decisive despite the still stance of the opposite party.

“So the saying goes, ‘It takes two to tango,’ one side’s effort would not bring the needed result at the table unless both sides are equally ready to negotiate and compromise. Indeed, the Terrorist TPLF’s records indicated the faction has not the tradition to compromise on such matters and I don’t think there is even a word ‘compromise’ on their dictionary.”

When conflict parties sit around the table, it means they are trying to resolve differences that they failed to achieve through war. In this regard, both sides should be willing enough to peacefully address the problem and compromise, though it is suspicious the T- TPLF is ready to do this, the veteran politician emphasized.

Noting the initiative that is being taken by the government to resolve conflicts through reconciliation bears undeniable importance in determining the nation’s future, Dima urged the involvement of relevant actors to the endeavor.
