Deputy Premier calls on higher education leadership to ensure peaceful teaching-learning process

ADDIS ABABA- Deputy Prime Minister urged public higher learning institutions to give special attention to peace inside campuses to realize healthy teaching-learning environment which is a prerequisite to the desired goal of producing competent citizens with sense of duty.

During a discussion held here yesterday to evaluate the peaceful teaching-learning activities in higher education institutions, Demeke said building a united country based on diversity is the foundation for peace and stability.

He also said that universities are expected to produce students that shoulder social responsibilities and be voices of the voiceless.

While the country is in reform, some conflicts are also witnessed here and there. Thus leaders of theinstitutions and stakeholders need to develop a clear system of information exchange and communication to facilitate a healthy teaching-learning process, underscored the Deputy Premier.

Samueal Kefile (PhD), Science and Higher Education state minister said the leaders of 42 public universities are expected to bring about quick solutions to any kind of problem that may come about to disturb the teaching-learning process. “Particularly, they need to give due attention to conflicts that may arise between students based on ethnic lines,” he said.
