PDC preparing ten-year dev’t plan

ADDIS ABABA-Plan and Development Commission (PDC) said it is preparing a ten-year national strategic plan to address the existing challenges of sustainable economic development.

The ten-year will mainly focus on social and economic issues. It will also give details about various macroeconomic issues, the manufacturing sector, economic infrastructure, urban development and housing, demography and development, human resource development, and other key issues.

Plan and Development Commissioner, Dr. Fitsum Asefa told a press briefing on Tuesday, though the economy has shown progress over the years, the progress has not been as expected due to due to lack of long term development plans, effective monitoring, and evaluation as well as transparency and accountability regarding the implementation of the plan.

In the last 27 years, there has not been a long term framework to govern medium-term national development, Fistum added.

Dr. Meseret Meskele, deputy commissioner at PDC, said the preparation process will follow a bottom-up approach and all stakeholders, including the private sector, civil society, farmers, pastoralists, as well as women and community representatives will take part.
