ADDIS ABABA– The National Dialogue would address contentious issues and sustain the deep national consensus thereby keeping the peace of the country and the longstanding mutual coexistence, Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council (EIASC) President said.

Though it is impossible to adjust past injustices, prime attention should be given to strengthen the foundations of which the peaceful coexistence and tolerance of the country rest upon, EIASC President Mufti Haji Omar Idris told the Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA). “Tragic loss of lives and immense property damages as well as the displacement of fellow citizens have occurred and now we should make an end to such atrocities and turn our face to peace.”

“The fear of the Creator constitutes the true source of one’s peace. The one who is the  affair of the Creator refrain from committing crimes and being devoted to peace respects others’ rights. Resolving conflicts through reconciliation is the longstanding culture the country and those involved in the National Dialogue could capitalize on this tradition.”

As to him, the government should work closely with the public to translate the objectives of the national dialogue into reality. Also, the public is expected to identify the enemies who are engaged in disrupting law and order and contribute share for the success of the National Dialogue.

“By the same token, the government has a huge responsibility to work hand in hand with the national dialogue commission with a vision of resolving the pressing problems in a peaceful manner.”

Emphasizing the need to put firm regulations to conduct efficient National Dialogue, the council president highlighted that priority should be given to ensure and sustain peace either through guiding or negotiating.

Mufti Omar further pleaded with everyone to refrain from destructive activities and to ensure active involvement in the National Dialogue in a bid to build the peace of the country.
