Kenya desirous to enhance cultural ties with Ethiopia: Deputy President

ADDIS ABABA- Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto said that his country is keen to replicate the exemplary government level relations with Ethiopia in cultural frontier in the view to enhance the people-to-people ties.

The Deputy President made the remark while addressing cultural event attended by members of the Ethiopian Borena community held in Nairobi.

During the occasion, he said that such cultural events have a paramount importance to create mutual understanding and peaceful relationship between people of the two countries. The events also vital to strengthen the cooperation in culture and tourism sectors.

The Deputy President reiterated his government’s commitment to the furtherance of the two countries’ people-to-people ties.

Ethiopia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotary to Kenya, Meles Alem on his part said that the Ethio- Kenya relations have not been affected by regime changes; while he called for the new generation to maintain the momentum in the two countries’ ties.

Governor of Marsabit County, Mohammed Ali stated that the cultural show helps to bring in the Borena people living in the two countries much closer, according to Minstry of Foreign Affairs Office of the Spokesperson.

Information obtained from Ethiopia’s Embassy in Kenya indicated that the cultural event aimed to enhance the relationship between the Afan- Oromo speaking Borena people who live in both sides of the Ethio- Kenya border.

The event was also envisioned to smooth trade and other relationship in the border areas.
