ADDIS ABABA – Members of the Ethiopian and Eritrean Diasporas living in the U.S. protested yesterday against H.R. 6600 (Ethiopia Stabilization, Peace and Democracy Act) and S. 3199 (Ethiopia Peace and Democracy Promotion Act) that have been proposed by some senators and house representatives of the U.S to impose sanctions on Ethiopia.

During the course of the demonstration in front of Capitol Hill, the Ethiopian and Eritrean Diasporas called on the U.S. congress and senate to cancel the draft bills that they describe as counterproductive tools.

The demonstrators said that the proposed draft bills do not measure up to the longstanding relationship between Ethiopia and the U.S. rather they undermine the ongoing peace efforts in the country putting socio economic situation at stake.

U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations is going to deliberate on S. 3199 today.
