Women’s commitment improves service delivery

ADDIS ABABA— Women’s participation in the health sector has brought significant progresses in provision of quality services in the sector in the Second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP), according to Federal Ministry of Health of Ethiopia.

Speaking on performance report of the first two and half years of GTP-II, Ministry’s Minister Dr. Amir Aman said that evaluation of the sector’s performance in the first phase of GTP-II indicates that women have played a pivotal role in contributing a great deal to transform the sector through effective participation in the sector. “They should repeat similar successes in the leadership positions,” he added.

According to the Minister, in order to realize the fruitful achievements the sector is rejoicing in these days,  women’s commitment at zonal, woreda, city administration and kebele level played momentous contributions. “Their effective participation in and handling of team works made the sector fruitful,” he said.

Dr. Amir further said that the national reform has improved the woreda’s health sector service delivery system, adding that his ministry is working towards ensuring lasting quality health services at all levels by enhancing women’s role in health leadership.

According to Dr. Amir, the ministry frequently implements community score card monitoring and evolution process through technological system in order to scale up the provision of quality services. “We will be furthering quality services delivery through recognizing women’s leadership in the sector,” he said.
