Fighting both an enemy and a friend

As the saying goes, God protect me from my friends, because I know my enemies. The government of Ethiopia took power after a free and fair election which involved more than 40 million people and many political parties.

And the legitimate government of the people has been attacked by a rebel group, the terrorist TPLF. Still the terrorist TPLF has also admitted in several occasions that it has triggered the war.

As the government and people are struggling this sworn enemy, what the US is doing against Ethiopia becomes highly questionable. Is it playing as a friend or enemy?

It is normal for a person to fight an enemy. A lucky person could have some one that lends a hand when an enemy strikes.

But at least if a person cannot lend a hand during adversity, it is much better if he/she keeps aloof or neutral. But if a person claims to be a friend and is found conspiring with the enemy it is an uphill battle.

This is what the US is currently doing against Ethiopia. This is not the first time the US is trying to bully Ethiopia and hand twist it to impose its unfair interest. In the past so many bills were foiled.

This is not the first time the US is pulling the bills in  trying to bully Ethiopia and hand twist it to impose its unfair interest. In the past many other bills were foiled.

More amazingly these bills show up when the US feels that Ethiopia is in trouble and that is the right time to take advantage. For instance following the bloody election 2005 the US started the process of a bill called HR 2005 with the pretext of violation of human rights.

Recently too as the Ethiopians people upheld the riot against the tyrant government the US issued the HR 128 to impose sanctions against the government.

Indeed the action was taken by some as if the US is concerned to the violation of HR under the autocratic rule of the then despotic government. Indeed the US stands to provide support to countries including Ethiopia.

The supports range from relief, emergency, economic etc. It also attempts to support in democracy, justice and governance affairs.

This being laudable it is difficult to accept the actions of meddling in the internal affairs, sovereignty of the nation. Even more the US has gone to the extent of supporting the destructive works of a rebel group which is a daylight violation of international laws as well as diplomatic principles.

After assuming power with popular, majority vote the government of Ethiopia is busy to respond to the very needs and longtime quests of the public. Even though it is too early to evaluate the outcomes the progresses so far in various sectors are so promising that the people would enjoy prosperity in the near future.

The government is undertaking the various mega development projects in the country by coordinating the resource potential of the people. This helps to free the nation from dependence on foreign aid, donation and the resultant foreign pressure that would be tantamount to neo-colonization.

Apart from mobilizing the resources at home, the government also engages in welcoming the generous support of friendly countries and international organizations.

Yet, the activities of the US contravenes the terms of a friendly country as it strives to hamper the economic progress of the country. At the beginning of the year, the US has delisted Ethiopia from the AGOA beneficiary nations.

This has actually some effect on the country. To add a sore to a wound it is now bracing impose even more sanctions through other bills.

Without any exaggeration, this puts Ethiopia in a two front war; one with an enemy that declared war in a broad day light and another with a friend.
